Maybe it’s because I have a soft spot for Oscar Niemeyer but the new Arc table by Foster + Partners seems like a much needed breath of fresh air.  There’s no contrived Zaha Hadid curves here, just a purity that seems lost in a lot of furniture now days.

The Bartok table by Strala is a beautifully raw piece of contemporary furniture design by a studio that is challenging the conventions of their profession.  ”Art invention by Strala unifies modernity and tradition. Our passion for awakening thoughts, quintessential craftsmanship and the enthusiasm for research are the energy behind our unprejudiced innovative power”

Side tables are the quiet under achievers of most living room settings.  This however is not to be looked upon negatively as they serve to reinforce the overall feeling of any room setting.  Spin by Tomoko Azumi has a very functional aesthetic with any superfluous details negated in exchange for simple elegance. The beautifully crafted timber frame is in stark contrast to the matt white discs that intersect it but they sit together in perfect harmony.

‘Habibi’ by Philipp Mainzer for E15 is a series of side tables that do away with the need for fashionable colourway’s and instead opt for a simple palette of metals.  The table comes in either brass, copper or steel and consists of two parts allowing the top tray to be removed and used separately.  Just perfect for when the evenings warm up and you wish to take you’re drinks out to the balcony instead.

The Stars collection by Bartoli Design for Laurameroni is an exercise in crafted minimalism.  These beautiful pieces are formally devoid of any embellishment except for “… increasing and decreasing sequences of rectangles”  which articulate the brass surface.

Layer by Luca Nichetto for Gallotti & Radice is a clever table who’s height can be determined by adding or removing a series of colourful wooden layers.

The Dominion Table by Michal Maciej Bartosik is an incredibly simple table to look at but upon further inspection reveals a more complex system
“Dominion is a series of light objects that reproduce the abstract universal plane ad infinitum. Akin to the voyaging monolith of Stanley Kubrick’s Space Odyssey and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s clearspan pavilion, they are ambiguous in form and scale; they exist as both solids and voids. At once furniture, at once follie, they delineate instances of the Cartesian grid upon which space is organized”
