The Flex chair by George Manasiev is a lovely balance from the utilitarian school chairs of old and the ergonomic chairs that pepper modern office spaces.  I particularly like the junction between the frame and the seat back as it seems to delicately cradle the form of the ply.

The Furore lamp by Lima De Lezando is a wonderful exercise in materiality and form.  Not only does the lamp provide an interesting counterpoint to other pendant clusters but it also combines a nice mix of both solid and translucent components.

Tafelstukken by Daphna Isaacs and Laurens Manders is a collection of lighting crafted from Oak and porcelain.  I particularly enjoy both the colour palette and use of exposed fixings as a way of differentiating the range from other more polished collections.

The Dominion Table by Michal Maciej Bartosik is an incredibly simple table to look at but upon further inspection reveals a more complex system
“Dominion is a series of light objects that reproduce the abstract universal plane ad infinitum. Akin to the voyaging monolith of Stanley Kubrick’s Space Odyssey and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s clearspan pavilion, they are ambiguous in form and scale; they exist as both solids and voids. At once furniture, at once follie, they delineate instances of the Cartesian grid upon which space is organized”

I find the lobby of The Standard Hotel in New York by Polshek Partnership Architects just stunning.  The space itself has a sense of permeability thanks to the perforations along the flanking walls.  This permeability seems to be further heightened by the slice of light that literally sections the space centrally on axis.

Lianes, Roches and Conques by french designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec is exhibiting at Galerie Kreo in Paris till late July.  The show features their latest collection of products drawn into a sense of haphazard cohesion throughout the space.  The seemingly tangled lights are the standout for me as their elegant proportion and line are further reinforced through the use of black leather surrounding the flex and ceiling rose.

Unstable Variables by Kjell Varvin features a series of objects from the studio arranged in a seemingly precarious manner.  Geometric forms intersect each other with ghostly precision and manage to uphold a sense of order in an otherwise delicate balance of parts.

Layer by Luca Nichetto for Gallotti & Radice is a clever table who’s height can be determined by adding or removing a series of colourful wooden layers.

Amazing use of material and process to create something rugged yet delicate.  The new Tailored Wood seat by Raw Edges for Cappellini is made from wood veneer which is filled with expanding foam to generate its form.

Designmilk take’s a look at one of my personal design hero’s Konstantin Grcic and the results of his collaboration with BD Barcelona. Always on point, Grcic shows exactly how much effort he puts into every single detail.
