The wireframe table by Ismail Ozalbayrak appears quite minimal at first glance but the form of the black wire base adds a level of visual complexity to the piece.  For me, it would be quite fun to play up a heavier material such as stone for the top as a way of offsetting the weightlessness of the base.

The Tanaka residence by Katsufumi kubota cuts some pretty sharp lines through the scenery of Yokosuka city.  Apart from some stunningly simple spaces, the house also features a rather suprising pirate-esque plank on its coastal side.

Apologies for my long absence but there has been no internet in my new apartment.  Anyway, in an attempt to catch up I came across some beautiful work by JACK over at Yatzer.

Spanish Architect Jordi Badia has just completed the CAM FRAMIS Museum in Barcelona.  I love the sensitive link between old and new both through form and materiality.  There is an inherent honesty in this type of context driven approach to architecture which is too readily forgotten these days.

Over at Yatzer I spotted this amazing temporary design store by Swiss designers ZMIK.  As part of the recent Art Basel show, the designers turned a once boring cloakroom into this amazingly graphical pop-up.  By simply applying hundreds of adhesive arrows to the floor, walls and ceiling the designers have managed to draw attention to the space and products.

The Basic series of kitchen equipment is by Norwegian designers StokkeAustad and Frost Produkt.  The entire collection appears to be well thought out and considered but the stand out for me happens to be this ingenious chopping board.  Once chopped, the vegetables can be collected in these discrete plastic drawers that slide out from the board itself.

This beautiful stool is by PINCH Design Studio and features a solid walnut frame and solid elm top.  Not only is the detailing exquisite but this stool also folds away and can be hung on a wall when not in use.  The perfect marriage between form and function.

Hironao Tsuboi will release his new Sun clock at this years Design Tide in Tokyo.  Sun is purposefully minimal except for a small colourful dot which reminds the user of the local sunrise/sundown time at each location.

This clever restaurant in paris is the result of a collaboration between Architect  India Mahdavi and artist Xavier Veilhan.  The space is anchored by a burst of blue on the walls and the large yellow sculpture which seemingly cuts through the two floors courtesy of Veilhan.

The Stars collection by Bartoli Design for Laurameroni is an exercise in crafted minimalism.  These beautiful pieces are formally devoid of any embellishment except for “… increasing and decreasing sequences of rectangles”  which articulate the brass surface.
